Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard 2012

Categories , ,

One of the great cult wineries and one that definitely lives up to the hype. The legend Helen Turley runs this tiny iconic production. If you aren’t familiar, she is probably the most influential female winemaker in the business, receiving critical acclaim for almost every wine she touches. Aside from her own boutique winery, Marcassin, which she runs with husband John Wetlaufer, Helen has been the consulting winemaker for some of the best wineries in the country including Colgin, Bryant Family and Martinelli. These are some of the absolute most difficult bottles of wine to get your hands on in the country, and my price is the lowest you’ll find online by far.

Located on the Sonoma Coast, the Marcassin vineyard is planted to 50/50 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and is only about 10 acres in size. The production each year is about 100 barrels spread out across their entire collection. The Marcassin Vineyard 2012 Pinot Noir has a little bit of age to it, so it’s incredibly expressive, refined and particularly delicious.

Original price was: $475.00.Current price is: $330.00.

97 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

Sure this has double 97-pt scores but scores are really irrelevant when talking about Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noirs. The wines are timeless- some of the best made in the world each year. Helen Turley is a legend, her waitlist takes up to 10 years and is the 3rd hardest allocation list to get into in all of California ahead behind only Dalla Valle and Screaming Eagle (ahead of Bryant Family, Sine Qua Non, Shafer, Harlan and Abreu). In the outstanding 2012 vintage, you better believe this is one of the finest versions of Marcassin Vineyards created, a near perfect showing that boasts so many twists and turns, complexity and opulence married with elegance, grace and precision.
