Chateau Marjosse Bordeaux Rouge 2019

Chateau Marjosse is home to one of Bordeaux’s most famous and respected winemakers, Pierre Lurton (Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem), and it is quite literally his home estate. He calls it his “secret garden that gives [him] energy” and if you’ve met Pierre, you probably wondered how this man was able to have so much. Now you know!

As Antonio Galloni noted, the Bordeaux legend has put a major emphasis on elevating his home estate. Judging by the success he’s enjoyed in his own backyard over the past few vintages, it’s safe to say he’s well on his way.

One distinct advantage that the Chateau enjoys over the competition is the soil. Even though the fruit comes from Entre-Deux-Mers, it has the exact kind of limestone (Astéries) that you’d find abundant throughout the property in Saint-Emilion. That’s extremely rare for EDM and gives that same special lift to the wine, with bright acidity to match a pretty intense and highly concentrated frame.

The other distinct advantage for Marjosse is Luton himself. He’s a bona fide winemaker who has seen more than a dozen of his wines receive the ultimate prize – a perfect 100-point score.
