Joostenberg Chenin Blanc 2023

It comes from Joostenberg, a 5th generation family business right in the heart of Stellenbosch that has built a special reputation for their traditional mixed farming. Everything they do is organic whether it be in the vineyard, or with their seasonally grown flowers, herbs and vegetables. These guys are farmers through and through.

Their old-vine Chenin Blanc is one of the winery’s calling cards – a crisp, refreshing number that’s far beyond just a simple white. It hits with intense waves of tropical fruit and is backed by a vibrant acidity that keeps everything perfectly in place.

The secret here to some of the weight and depth comes from the tiny portion of Roussanne. It’s such a smart move. But there’s also this unmistakable minerality that comes from 40-year old vines that lie atop decomposed granite and clay shale. That’s what pushes this one over the top.

This one always has a nice score attached to it eventually, but we don’t have the time to wait. Especially not when we’re getting 50+ degree sunny days in February. This is the perfect white wine to usher in the spring weather. Fresh as can be, with decent weight and a lot of personality. This would pair really well with any kind of pasta, but especially with an alfredo sauce – thai food for sure as well as pretty much anything coming out of the ocean. This pairs with them all.
