Ca’Maiol Giome Rosso 2020 (Case-Only)

Today’s winery, Ca Maiol, is conveniently located in the heart of this Lugana Zone, right on the southern shores of Lake Garda. The place has been there since the days of the Romans’ rule, and this rich history places an integral part in their operations.

Their ‘Giome Rosso’ is the perfect example of history meeting modern technology and innovation. It combines Groppello, a grape indigenous to Lake Garda with Sangiovese, Barbera and Marzemino for a zipped up, highly quaffable, Italian red blend with great balance and precision. It’s fresh and fruity in its youth, but also with the structure needed to develop more complex, integrated flavors.

I would call this one medium-bodied, and jam-packed with personality. What I love is that every varietal in this blend plays a crucial role and the end product is very unique. Groppello brings light tannins, fresh red fruit flavors, and a hint of spiciness. The Marzemino is predominantly a blending grape that introduces a velvety mouthfeel with a touch of sweetness. Barbera gives the wine its acidic backbone with black fruit flavors and the Sangiovese is the do-it-all grape that adds the bright red cherry fruits and silkiness.

Original price was: $240.00.Current price is: $125.00.
