Tenuta Tascacante Ghiaia Etna Rosso 2022

95 Points, James Suckling

The 2022 ‘Ghiaia Etna Rosso is insanely good. It’s the kind of wine that I can’t wait to get into the hands of as many people as possible. James Suckling just dropped a massive 95-point score on the wine calling it “very pretty, perfumed… with plenty of fresh flowers, focus and finesse.” He even wondered aloud if it might be their best ever. I don’t think there’s a question – it doesn’t get any better than this.

95 Points, James Suckling
A very pretty, perfumed, young Etna rosso with plenty of fresh flowers, focus and finesse. Medium-bodied, it has fine tannins and a long, bright finish. Best ever? Drink now or hold.

The Tasca family has been an integral part of the Sicilian wine scene for generations and is considered by many to be one of its biggest champions. They were the very first producer to market their wines with ‘Sicily’ proudly stated on the label at a time when winemakers thought that ‘Italian table wine’ would be better received.

But the Tasca family had a really good feeling about the special soil that lay beneath their vines. They envisioned great possibilities and they forged ahead.

Operating on Mount Etna’s north slope, the family’s vineyard sits with northern exposures at 600 meters above sea level. Tenuta Tascante was the first to know what so many now do—wines here are unlike any in the world. They’re not overly fruity, but rather more salty and refreshing—low alcohol, high PH wines with amazing mineral backbones that stand up to any food or completely shine on their own.
