The early signs on the 2022 Napa Valley Cab Sauvs is that the wines are fantastic. It was a bountiful and uneventful harvest which is exactly what a winemaker prays for, and it ended up being the answer that everyone needed.
Unsurprisingly, last week when I popped the cork on the new Gravelly Loam Cabernet from Ry Richards, I was blown away. His signature Cabernet Sauvignon is the epitome of plump and delicious.
Ry does what he always seems to do even though for most, it’s a nearly impossible feat – he makes under $50/btl Cabernet from Napa that stands toe to toe with bottles double and triple the cost.
In a special year like 2022, a lot of great winemakers like Ry Richards were able to take advantage of the high quality and high yields. He locked into two parcels to make what is already shaping up to be an extraordinarily good vintage of Fiancetto Gravelly Loam Cabernet.
