Belle Glos Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

93 Points, Wine Enthusiast

Always the one with the most personality of the bunch, this is what Wine Enthusiast had to say about the brand new 2022 release: “The palate is big and bold, loaded with ripe black cherry and boysenberry flavors, as peppery, incense-like spices add complexity and the texture stays lusciously creamy.” The cool, coastal days and abundance of sunshine lines up perfectly for a wine that has a good natural acidic backbone, with bold fruit-forward flavors. In an easy 2022 vintage, Joe Wagner had a field day with this single-vineyard beauty. This one is a show-stopper for sure.

Deep and dark aromas of black cherry, sandalwood and incense make for a heady nose on this bottling. The palate is big and bold, loaded with ripe black cherry and boysenberry flavors, as peppery, incense-like spices add complexity and the texture stays lusciously creamy.

Owner/winemaker, Joe Wagner chose the name Belle Glos to honor his grandmother, Lorna Belle Glos Wagner. Lorna was a co-founder of Caymus Vineyards along with her son Chuck and was an inspirational figure to Joe and an avid lover of Pinot Noir.

Though she wasn’t around to see her grandson’s Pinot Noir project, there’s little doubt she would’ve loved the timeless terroir-driven classics that Joe and team cook up each vintage. But in the 2021 vintage, recovering from a nasty year with wildfires, Joe’s team reached heights, I’m not sure he would’ve ever dreamed up. The 2021 vintage in Napa was a dream for juicy Pinot Noir especially at Las Alturas Vineyard at 1200 feet altitude in the Santa Lucia Highlands.
