Borgo Conventi Pinot Grigio 2021

Categories , ,

This particular Pinot Grigio in my opinion happens to have it all. It comes from the increasingly popular cool weather spot of Collio in the prestigious Friulia-Venezia region in northern Italy where some of the most mineral laced, spicy, and complex whites in the entire country are made.

Influenced by the Alps to the north, the Adriatic Sea to the south and the Friulian Plain in between – Collio is treated to a riches of different influences, gaining salinity from the ocean, minerality from the unique soil and a gorgeous natural acid backbone from the slow-maturing grapes that are kept cool in the summer by the nearby Alps.

The gorgeous Pinot that I had came from Borgo Conventi, a player in the region since the mid-1970s. They’ve had the same winemaker, Paolo Corso since 1989 whose relentless work in the vineyard has translated into some of the most interesting, high-toned treats that I’ve had from Collio.

Original price was: $24.00.Current price is: $19.99.

Honeydew, Bosc pear and Golden Delicious apple aromas lift out of a glass of this delightful Pinot Grigio. On the palate, the wine shows the minerality of Collio region and the more savory sides of the varietal. Medium in body, it has a bright and sumptuous finish.

90 Points, James Suckling
Buttercups, apricots, apples and some honey on the nose. Some spice and licorice, too. Medium-to full-bodied with a compact, ripe palate. Lightly spicy.
