90 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast
The nose opens with mushrooms and soil and woodsy, umami aromas. Vanilla and cherry eventually join, appearing again on the palate, along with more berries and the metallic tang of more iron-rich soil underlined by abundant acidity and angular tannins.
90 Points, James Suckling
Smoky cherries with bark and baking spice on the nose and a hint of white pepper and some boiled herbs too. Medium-bodied on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a medium to long finish. Drink now.
Tenuta Campo Maccione is a killer project spearheaded by the Zingarelli family in the budding wine region of Tuscany’s Maremma. The estate’s potential to yield viticultural results of the finest quality was immediately apparent, and in 1999 the Zingarelli family began the task of identifying and planting the best parcels for Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Vermentino.
Morellino (the local name for Sangiovese) from this part of Tuscany produces deliciously juicy and drinkable wines that blend particularly well with warm weather-loving international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Campo Maccione estate has about 25 hectares planted to wine, and is perfectly located only six miles from the Mediterranean Sea at 250–300ft above sea level. Soils are composed of sand, enriched with quartz and limestone which is the perfect mixture to create some sensational wines with a ton of personality and depth.
