Chateau Fleur de Fonplegade Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2019

Categories , ,

Folks have been making wine at Fonplegade – perched on the limestone that is home to Saint-Emilion’s finest vineyards – since the 16th century. And although the Chateau was included in the original 1955 classification of Grand Cru status, quality has shot even further upward since the estate was acquired by Denise and Stephen Adams in 2004.

Their changes have been pioneering. First and foremost, they led the charge to handle the vineyards via biodynamic principles – the ultra level beyond organic farming that has caught on through much of the wine world though is not as common in Bordeaux.

The next thing they did was hire a rock star consultant. Chateau Malescasse, Smith Haut Lafitte, Chateau Pavie-Macquin, Canon-la-Gaffelière, “super cuvée” La Mondotte, Clos Fourtet, Brown, & Rubicon. Stéphane Derenoncourt’s hands are all over some of the greatest wines in the world.

Original price was: $35.00.Current price is: $27.00.

The Right Bank in the 2019 vintage has all the makings of something truly special, and this little number that I picked up speaks volumes to that potential. It’s a true discovery – no expert reviews, just something I tasted that was really excellent. A Grand Cru wine from the 2019 vintage with this pedigree of winemaker should cost you three to four times what today’s offer price is but … this is a very exclusive direct import. After reviewing over 100 Bordeaux, this is one of just a few I’ve selected to offer up.
