CRU GSM Red Blend Paso Robles 2021

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast

This is a Big Red from a great value winery that brings everything you want in a GSM blend. It’s very approachable, with big jammy fruit up front but plenty of acidity and backbone to hold up to it and some greener, more herbaeous notes towards the finish. Structurally it’s as sound as can be and it’s made in a mass appeal style, it’s the perfect BBQ wine and a great one to served slightly chilled in a big Bordeaux glass.

Original price was: $28.00.Current price is: $24.45.

Dark cherry aromas meet with hints of hickory and smoked nuts on the nose of this blend of 40% Grenache, 36% Syrah and 24% Mourvèdre. The palate pops with fresher strawberry and hibiscus, with layers of tea leaf, oregano and marjoram adding depth.

One thing is very evident when I tasted this bottle from Cru, there is most definitely a new value wine star brewing in the Santa Lucia Highlands and in Paso Robles.

The 2021 CRU GSM similarly to the Chardonnay is still a bit of an economic problem for the winery, but a benefit to the consumer. It’s sourced from entire the French Camp Vineyard in the Paso Robles Highlands District. Located just north of the Temblor Mountains at the southeastern corner of the Paso Robles AVA, French Camp Vineyard has one of the more unique terroirs (combination of rainfall, temperature, and soils) for growing grapes in California. To get a single-vineyard GSM at this price and quality is pretty rare.
