“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Dyer Vineyard is all class. Dawnine Dyer crafted a nuanced, polished Cabernet that really stands out. Graphite, crushed rocks, mint, lavender, spice and mocha are all beautifully delineated. Fine-grained tannins and impeccable balance elevate the Dyer 2021 in the realm of the most refined wines of the vintage. Superb.”
Dyer makes some of the most compelling wines in all of Napa Valley at their tiny Diamond Mountain estate. For some reason, Dyer remains very much under the radar. Readers with classically leaning palates will want to check out these wines.”

Dyer Vineyard, nestled in Napa Valley’s Diamond Mountain District, is a testament to the passion and expertise of Bill and Dawnine Dyer. Their journey into winemaking began in the late 1960s, sparked by a transformative Ridge Zinfandel.
After gaining extensive experience at renowned wineries like Chandon and Sterling, they established Dyer Vineyard in 1995, driven by a desire to craft wines that reflected their vision. The 2.3-acre vineyard, situated on a challenging hillside, presented unique geological and climatic conditions. The Dyers meticulously studied their parcel, discovering a complex mix of volcanic red rock and gravel, remnants of an ancient landslide. The vineyard’s elevation and orientation, coupled with cool Pacific winds, create a microclimate that yields grapes with exceptional balance and liveliness.
The Dyers’ winemaking philosophy emphasizes gentle extraction and careful tannin management. They cold-soak grapes before fermentation and use a basket press to extract the finest juice. The Dyers’ commitment to sustainable farming and their meticulous attention to detail have resulted in wines that are both elegant and expressive, reflecting the unique character of their Diamond Mountain vineyard.
