If you’re thinking “Haven’t I seen this wine in the Wine Spectator Top 100 for the past two years now?” Yes, yes you have. It’s without a doubt the best value Australia has going at the moment. The Shiraz that First Drop has been making in the Barossa Valley in South Australia has been nothing short of extraordinary, and with their ridiculously reasonable price points, bold flavors and approachability. It’s a complex Shiraz with black cherry notes that lead off followed by blackberry, baking spices and some bramble. It’s a vibrant and juicy wine that has a nice little spicy kick to it at the end. Always a pleasure to drink.

92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of black fruit, pepper, dark licorice and overturned earth. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy texture and fine tannins. It has a savory fruit character with some salinity to it. Drink or hold.

90 Points, Vinous
The fruit-forward and charming 2022 Shiraz Mother’s Milk offers up a wild ride of dark cherry and coffee bean aromas with a dark, earthy tinge. It’s well-pitched, fresh and vibrant with a supple core of tannins that fits the overall package of red berry flavor well before a gentle finish.

First Drop Wines has been creating quite the buzz in Australia. The small winemaking company in the Barossa Valley uses an innovative approach to wine production that creates high quality wines from unique and lesser-known grape varietals.
