“Ripe dark-skinned fruit, mocha and grilled herb aromas mingle with violet and pipe tobacco on this delicious red. Smooth and savory, the polished palate delivers dried cherry, orange rind and licorice alongside tightly knit, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2025–2032.”

“The 2020 Barbaresco slowly reveals delicate fruit with finely tuned aromas of wild cherry, tar, rose and pencil shaving. That darker mineral note gives this vintage a deeper, more baritone quality. But Nebbiolo’s characteristic brightness shines through. The 2020 tannins are more immediate overall, and the wine’s mouthfeel is slender and firm.”
You can ask every single winemaker in Piedmont what the most important thing is about an estate and you’ll get the same answer every time: the vineyards. It’s all about the land – it’s about the soil, the sun exposure, the slopes, and ultimately, who has the best vineyards. Fontanabianca is one of those blessed estates that has it all.
These days, it’s run by an ambitious, young winemaker, Matteo Pola, who after taking over from his father has laid out lofty expectations for himself and his family’s incredible plot of land in the village of Neive in the heart of Barbaresco.
With access to the Serraboella and Bordini Crus, their Barbaresco is a rare example in Piedmont of ‘sori’ where the sunlight arrives first early in the morning. Part of the reason for this is the elevation and nearly 300 meteres from sea level. This extraordinary site offers some of the most ideal growing conditions to create elegant, structured Nebbiolo that are as radiant and pretty as you’re going to find.
