“A deep but youthful ruby color, the 2022 Bolgheri Rosso is beautiful on opening, with aromas of black raspberry, lavender, sweet herbs, and fresh leather. Pure and inviting, it’s flush with plush tannins, even acidity, and a supple texture with a graceful, mineral-tinged backbone. It is a fantastic Rosso and hard to resist now, although it will certainly cruise over the next 8-10 years.
In 2020, if you compared Grattamacco to the wines from Ornellaia and Sassacaia, you might get confused for a drunk, but now just two short years later, I’m seeing major publications referring to those two plus Grattamacco as the big 3! Man on man, have the tables turned!
Now a perennial powerhouse, the Bolgheri Rosso from Grattamacco represents one of if not the very best Super Tuscan value that Italy has to offer. We have all over this for years – way before the wine press!
The Sassacaia and Ornellaia Rossos will still run you between $65-80/bottle, but the now consistently highly rated Grattamacco Rosso has remained (for now) firmly in the mid $30 range. There’s arguably no better value right now in all of Bolgheri.
