Heitz Cabernet Sauvignon Lot C-91 2018

Categories , ,

Lot C-91 is the culmination of 50 years of tireless effort, trial and error, and the continual desire to make a most unique expression of the heralded vineyards of Heitz Cellar.

What I love about the project is that there are literally no bad vintages. Take the 2017 vintage for example: almost EVERYBODY struggled with their 2017s, a season that was marred by wildfires and labeled, “traumatic”. But Heitz Cellar didn’t struggle at all, with their Lot C-91 leading the pack out of Napa with double 96 points scores.

But in the 2018 vintage, a vintage with a wet spring that gave way to a beautiful, warm, sunny summer – it’s all bets off. I have a hunch this will outclass and outshine its double 96-point predecessor when it gets into the right critic’s hands once again.

Original price was: $120.00.Current price is: $99.00.

93 Points, Wine Spectator
Expressive, with a bold menthol note that’s followed quickly by boysenberry and blackberry flavors wrapped in black licorice. The long finish has a tug of earth amid a generally velvety feel, while the menthol note curls around the fruit. Distinctive. Drink now through 2038.

Ever since the 1969 vintage in Joe Heitz’s earliest days, the Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon from Heitz has represented one of the most consistently excellent, ultra-refined Cabernet bottlings made anywhere in the world. Blending fruit from Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Howell Mountain is certainly a recipe for success but when you also factor in the winemaking prowess and the meticulous attention to detail, you can see why this has become such an age-worthy collector’s item.
