Nieto Senetiner Malbec Mendoza 2022

90 Pts, James Suckling – 90 Pts (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – 90 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 90 Points, Vinous

Let’s start with the basics: this Malbec is priced under $15 a bottle, which is enticing enough on its own. But here’s where it gets so much better – it’s racked up quadruple 90+ point scores from some of the most respected names in wine. We’re talking Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, Vinous, James Suckling, and Master of Wine Tim Atkin. That kind of consensus is rare, especially at this price point.

There’s a lot to love here – with an inviting nose that draws you right in. There are hints of cherries, raspberries and black berries, along with spicy notes and flowery scents. It is weighty and intense thanks to its time in oak barrels and the craftsmanship from this great winemaking team. It’s nice and concentrated, with velvety, long tannins.

Original price was: $16.00.Current price is: $14.50.

90 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The regular and mostly unoaked 2022 Malbec was produced with a 50/50 mix of grapes from Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo, and it has 14% alcohol and a juicy, varietal and clean profile. Only 20% of the volume matured in barrel for eight months. It’s fresh, clean and fruit-driven, with berry fruit, herbs and flowers. It has a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins and is dry, vibrant and nicely textured with fine tannins. Very good value and a very good introduction to Malbec from Mendoza.”

90 Points, James Suckling
Attractive nose of plums, fresh blueberries, thyme and orange zest. Fruity and crunchy with a medium to full body, easy tannins and fresh finish

90 Points, Vinous
The 2022 Malbec is mostly from Luján de Cuyo. A light purple hue. The nose presents mild plum notes with hints of violet and pepper. Juicy with mild tannins and good flavor for the price. Expressive with a pleasant fruity finish. The 2022 is velvety in feel.

90 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast
Fresh and youthful, this red shows cherry and baking spices on the nose. It’s fruit-forward and has juicy red and black fruit flavors blended with herbs. Good acidity freshens and lengthens the finish.

Nieto Senetiner has been a major player in Mendoza since the late 1800’s. They were first founded by Italian immigrants who thought that Malbecs could be far more sophisticated than what was being made at the time. They prioritized barrel-select blending and additional oak aging, two pioneering decisions that have been replicated a million times over since then. But the originators continue to separate themselves from the rest of the pack with their elegant Big Reds such as today’s Malbec.

Of course, when your wine is this good at this good of a price, all the wine critics come calling. It doesn’t hurt when Paul Hobbs is your consulting winemaker either! Unsurprisingly, this one has four different instances of super strong press lead by the most trusted name in wine, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate. This is a no-brainer!
