Peter Michael “L’Apres Midi” Sauvignon Blanc 2022

The newly released L’Après-Midi is an absolute beauty – it’s in a league of its own. If you want an iconic, age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc, I can think of no better place to start. The Wine Advocate says this one “will develop complexity in bottle over the next decade.” That’s pretty rare in a SB!

This gem gives off a bouquet of jasmine, lime zest, lemon rind, pear, and gooseberry mixed with accents of toasted almond and baking spices. A lively, juicy entry leads to flavors of fresh peach, grapefruit, apricot, and guava. The plush, textured mouthfeel frames this medium- to full-bodied wine, which finishes with accents of lemon meringue pie, a dash of honey, and key lime. What a stunner – no surprise the critics are unanimous once again.

94 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc L,AprÅ s-Midi, blended with 8% S,millon and matured in about 15% new French oak, features ringing tones of peach, kiwi, tarragon and white lily with undertones of candle smoke, flint and petrichor. The palate opens with pure fruit before unfurling expansive, savory accents, and its fresh acidity balances its satiny, mouth-coating texture. Its juxtaposition of concentrated fruit and shimmery tension draws you back to the glass for another dynamic sip, and although it’s approachable now, it will develop complexity in bottle over the next decade.

94 Points, Vinous
“The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc L’AprÅ s-Midi is super-expressive. Lemon confit, white flowers, passion fruit and jasmine all soar out of the glass. There’s about 30% Musque clone in this blend, and that really comes through. Even with its overt personality, L’AprÅ s-Midi remains light on its feet. It’s a gorgeous wine in every way.”

“Plenty of apples, pears and green melon with hints of green mangoes. Some steely undertones. Medium-bodied with bright and vivid freshly cut fruit. Delicious finish. Hints of stone and blossom honey. About 8% semillon. Drink now and enjoy.”

Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille 2017 will be delicious this Saturday night and every other for the next 10-15 years.

This might be the first time ever that I’ve managed to snag a small amount of Peter Michael’s world-class Sauvignon Blanc. It’ll certainly cost you, but that’s because it’s easily amongst the best made in the world each year.

The estate vineyards rest on steep hillsides ranging in elevation from 1100 to nearly 2000 feet. Of the nearly 600 estate acres, only about 20% are planted to grapes.

With a 10% helping of Semillon added to this wine, it’s pretty complex and full-bodied for a Sauvignon Blanc and a very serious expression. It’s meant to rival the best of single-vineyard Sancerre and you can certainly see why. There’s a reason these bottles are so hard to come by. It’s age-worthy American SB that stands atop the national podium.

Grilled Fish and seasonal root vegetables are the perfect match.
