98 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Opening with aromas of ripe golden apples, fragrant jasmine, toasted almonds, and delicate acacia honey with a profound minerality that emerges as the wine opens. The textured, layered palate is a work of art, with apricots, baked pear, and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg leading to a stunning mineral finish.
96 Points, James Suckling
The only oak-inflected cuvee at the estate. Aged in 100% used tonneaux, both French and Slavonian. Superb aromas of pistachios, peaches and dried mangoes. Broad and expansive, yet funneled into a vortex of tension by freshness that sublimates any sense of obvious power. A wonderful expression of a warmer vintage that suits perfectly this compelling site. Drink or hold.
The Pieropan family are legends in Italy. Their winery has been around since 1860 and sits in the heart of the old town of Soave. Their secret ingredient to success is their three single vineyards, integral and historical backbones of the appellation itself that have made the most interesting, age-worthy whites in the entire region.
Calvarino, La Rocca, and Le Colombare are the three vineyards which together span 74 acres under vine. For decades, they’ve been bottling their La Rocca Single-Vineyard by itself, and right up there with Almondo’s ‘Le Rive,’ it is one of Italy’s most sacred white wine bottlings.
In addition to just the best land Soave has to offer, the Pieropans are a very studious, forward-thinking, and experimental bunch. For decades, they’ve been at the forefront of research, innovative methods, and extraction techniques to make age-worthy special wines that belong with the best white wines on the international stage.
