Pikesville Rye 6-Year Old (110 Proof) 2015 Release

Category

Pikesville Rye holds the title as the last standing Maryland rye brand. Originally produced in Maryland by L. Winand & Brothers Distillery starting in 1895, the brand went through several changes of ownership, and was last produced in Maryland in 1972 by the Majestic Distilling Corporation. In 1982, it was sold to Heaven Hills who currently own it and are responsible for releasing the Pikesville Straight Rye in 2015.

An immediate success, the Whiskey was given a Double Gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and even more importantly, was named the Second Finest Whisky in the World in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2016 as well as the World’s Best Rye Whisky at the World.

I managed to get a hold of 10 bottles of this absolutely killer bottle of Rye (recipient of Jim Murray’s ‘World’s Best Rye Whisky at the World’ honor). It explodes with aromas of cacao, vanilla, freshly baked pie and a dash of caramel and then offers a rich mixture on the palate of both sweet and spicy notes highlighted by licorice, chocolate, and a hint of a vanilla on a finish that goes on for a mile and totally seals the deal.
