Schrader Double Diamond Oakville Proprietary Red 2022

(Not Yet Rated)

On the heels of making Wine Spectator’s 2022 Wine of the Year, the Schrader family gave Thomas Rivers Brown (who has made 27 perfect 100-point wines for Schrader) a new objective for the 2021 vintage: make a Bordeaux Blend that is equally as impressive as its Cab sibling. Now in its second vintage – it’s quite clear to all those around this project that is a bonafide winner that is just as sought after as the Cabernet. This one is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc – a true Bordeaux Blend for the ages.  This beauty should have another 30-35 years ahead of it, easily.

Having already established one of the most successful wineries in America, Fred Schrader created Double Diamond as part of his continuing quest to make the best Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley can offer back in 2001.

He tasked acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown with the winemaking duties and let him execute his own vision. Needless to say, it has paid off tremendously (they have the most ever 100-point scores with 27!!!). This unique expression of the region carries on the tradition of earning critical acclaim and drawing passionate fans that Fred began in 1998 with Schrader Cellars. After a three-year hiatus, Double Diamond returned by popular demand in 2018. And the next vintage, their 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon ended up as Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine of 2022.

On the heels of such greatness, the Schrader family is looking to expand the Double Diamond footprint, asking the famous winemaker to make them an equally compelling wine as the Cabernet Sauvignon using all Bordeaux varietals. It’s a classic in the making – a perfect addition to the Double Diamond portfolio.
