94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Punchy tannins, interesting leather and tobacco complexity, and a core of black currants and black olives help this wine stand out from the pack. Just ripe without overdoing it, the black fruits are deep and complex but also fresh and savory. Best from 2025.
The Pey Family is a Napa Valley success story built on a passion for quality and a commitment to meticulous winemaking. They recently started an ambitious project in Oakville, one of Napa’s most prestigious appellations. Here, with access to exceptional fruit, they launched the “Textbook” line of Cabernet Sauvignons.
These wines aim to rewrite the value equation for Napa Cab. Sourcing fruit from coveted vineyards often associated with cult producers like Screaming Eagle and Harlan Estate, the Pey Family meticulously crafts their Textbook Cabernets. This allows them to deliver a level of quality typically reserved for much pricier wines.
The focus in the Textbook line is on balance and elegance, despite the bold fruit profile. Layers of blackberry and black currant, complemented by hints of mocha and caramel. These rich flavors are then beautifully balanced by velvety tannins and refreshing acidity, resulting in a powerful yet sophisticated wine. The Textbook Cabernets offer a taste of Napa Valley’s finest, without the exorbitant price tag typically associated with the region’s most celebrated producers.
