Vina Robles Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

93 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast – 93 Points, James Suckling

This gives you everything you’d want in a Paso Robles Cabernet – full-bodied and expressive with beautiful structure. It has those signature Paso dark-fruited notes infused with cocoa, crème de cassis and a splash of oak. Wine Enthusiast called it “solidly satisfying” in their big-time review, while James Suckling gave it 93 points, praising its “sleek and lengthy” profile. It’s a deep, brooding wine with silky smooth tannins and some great energy. This beauty can be laid down or enjoyed over the next 5-10 years, easily but it’s so tempting to drink right now.

93 Points, James Suckling

Creamy, dark-fruited character with notes of walnuts, vanilla and dark licorice. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine, polished tannins. Sleek and lengthy, with a chalky texture at the end. Even and long. Drink or hold.

93 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast

This solidly satisfying style of Paso Robles Cab will please many palates. Aromas of cocoa, black tea, coffee bean and elderberry decorate the nose. The palate is tense in structure but forgiving enough to present easily enjoyable flavors of elderberry jam, warm oak and dark herb.

Vina Robles is a pretty special winery — founded in the early 1990’s by a very wealthy Swiss businessman Hans Nef for the purpose of combining his Old World wine vision with the exciting possibilities that New World wine brings. He purchased six different vineyards and built a completely revolutionary state of the art winery, and even lured rising star winemaker Kevin Willenborg who amazingly got his start at the uber-famous Chateau Petrus.

He does a ridiculously good job combining old-world practices with the exciting possibilities the New World brings. They’re one of the big players in Paso Robles, who have been a Wine Enthusiast Top 100 staple for a few years now. But even a rising star like Vina Robles has a bit of a problem.
