It’s a special place to grab Cab due to its distinctive terroir – gravel and river rock soil composition influenced by the creek running through the property. This imparts a stony, gravelly, savory core reminiscent of what you’d find only in top Bordeaux estates. Then you factor in that this wine spent 20 months in barrel (60% new French oak), developing remarkable complexity and length, and you realize this is a Napa Valley Reserve Cab bottling with a whole lot of prestige.
Chad only creates Reserve-level wines when the vintage demands it, and 2023 provided exactly the right conditions. With multiple vineyards flush with exceptional juice, Chad worked his connections to Napa royalty, knowing darn well this was the year to create something magical. The 2023 Chad Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa Valley is cloaked in secrecy, with NDAs so tight I can barely tell you anything. What I can say is that the winemaking talent behind this bottle is insane – one of Napa’s most celebrated figures with a trophy case of 100-point scores to his (lengthy) name. Let’s just say Chad called in a serious favor to make this one happen!
The source is equally impressive: a small 6.75-acre site in St. Helena that produces some of Napa’s most coveted old-vine Cabernet. This vineyard sits in the “hourglass” of Napa Valley, nestled between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Range, creating the perfect microclimate for Cabernet Sauvignon.
