Mon Frere Cabernet Sauvignon California 2022
92 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast – #14 Best Buy, 2024 (WE Top 100)
The 2022 harvest was a particularly large one by volume throughout all of California – giving these guys plenty of ammo to work with to make the best possible Cuvee. Their winemaking team sourced Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles and Lake County to make this, giving the wine a ton of personality with a unique flair.
As soon as you pop the cork you’re greeted with inviting aromas of blue, red, and black fruits. Good primary fruit gives way to a slight peppery spice. This isn’t a full-bodied fruit bomb, it’s more of a well-put-together medium-bodied, easy-drinking Cali Cabernet and the perfect cellar protector. This is a top Tuesday night value – with or without the Top 15 spot on Wine Enthusiast’s Top Best Buys of the Year list.

MORE INFO
Mon Frere has only been around a few years but it’s a concept that the California wine industry sorely needs. They’re out to make the best wines possible from California’s diverse and rich terroir and they’re hoping to do it at a highly affordable price. It’s a novice concept, I know!
These guys only started in 2019, but it’s been tough sledding with market conditions in their first few years. But the 2022 vintage was by far this boutique’s biggest to date. Of course, that’s in no small part due to the big scores and huge notoriety they’ve now received. But the product that they put out is by far the highest quality – as they’d be the first to admit.
